Tahiti is the ultimate South Pacific paradise! Whether you are staying at a resort or cruising the islands, there is no better place to celebrate your new life together or to celebrate a milestone in your relationship. ![]() Papeete on the island of Tahiti is where the main international airport is located. It takes only 8 hours to fly from Los Angeles to Papeete. It is in the same time zone as Hawaii and is as far south of the equator as Hawaii is north. It is composed of 118 islands and atolls spread across an area the size of western Europe.
Tikehau is an almost circular atoll with an interior lagoon 16 miles across and a pass for small boats through the coral reef. There are only a few hundred inhabitants. With barely a few miles of roads, there is no need for public transportation. For exploring the village area of Tuherahera, walking, scooters and bicycles are all enjoyable and typical. For exploring the lagoon and surrounding motus, motorboats, canoes, and sailboat rentals and charters are available at the resort or in the village. The only accommodation on Tikehau is the beautiful Pearl Beach Resort located on an idyllic motu laden with palms and ringed with white-sand beaches. It is a blend of exclusive hideaway (elegant yet informal) with Polynesian hospitality. This secluded resort features beach bungalows with a lagoon-side beachfront location and spacious overwater bungalows. The overwater bungalows, of course, feature "Tahitian TV", which is a small glass floor section from which you can feed the fish and enjoy watching the spectacular underwater life of the lagoon. All rooms are designed in true Polynesian style. My favorite feature of the beach bungalows was the "tropical bathrooms and showers". This part of the rooms is enclosed by 5-6 foot high walls but open to the sky! Diving is a main attraction here. Or you could take a picnic and lay on a secluded islet all day. Bird Island is a popular destination with its bird sanctuary. The Pearl Beach Resort offers badmitton, volleyball, kayaks, outrigger canoes, snorkeling equipment, an outdoor pool and a Manea Spa. The beautiful Poreho Restaurant in the Pearl Beach Resort sits just a few feet away from the lagoon and specializes in unique French, Polynesian, and International dishes.
