Turquoise waters, white sand and refreshing breezes are what keep visitors coming back to Grand Cayman. A couple of my favorite things were the excellent food and the great beaches along "Seven Miles Beach". There are three islands in the Cayman Islands and most of the tourists will visit Grand Cayman. Little Cayman and Cayman Brac will be for those that really want to get away. They will not have the choices for restaurants and accommodations. Grand Cayman is a popular cruise ship stop. The town of Georgetown, is the cruise port and it has great duty-free shopping for such things as watches, fine jewelry, china and crystal and perfumes. There are also local arts and crafts and Caribbean specialty foods and rum and rum cakes from the Tortuga Rum Company. If you are staying in Grand Cayman you will want to watch the cruise schedule and try to avoid the port area on cruise days, because it gets very crowded. One of the big draws to the Cayman Islands is the diving, snorkeling and water sports. On a typical snorkeling trip you will probably visit Stingray City where you can feed and interact with the Stingrays while standing in about of three feet of water on a sandbar. On our trip the guides caught some conch while we were snorkeling and fixed it for our lunch. It was very good. Water sports include windsurfing, wave runners, parasailing and underwater submarine rides. Some of the other attractions to see are the Queen Elizabeth Botanic Park with its Iguana Habitat and the Turtle Farm on the West Bay. Another fun tourist attraction is to visit "HELL", named for its appearance of exposed ironshore. You can stop by the post office and send your friends a genuine postcard from Hell. It is fun to take a ferry from the Hyatt up to the north side of the island called Rum Point. Rum Point is very tranquil with a lot of shady trees, picnic tables and hammocks. One of the best restaurants on the island is the Rum Point restaurant. A lot of food on the island has a strong Jamaican influence with vibrant seasonings. A couple of other restaurants we enjoyed were the "Cracked Conch" with its great sunsets. For a casual lunch we enjoyed "Chicken Chicken" for a Caribbean influenced rotisserie chicken. Some of the upscale resorts I would recommend would be the Westin, Hyatt Regency and the brand new Ritz-Carlton.
