The Galapagos Islands are such a unique destination and a nature lover's dream. They are about 620 miles west of the Ecuadorian coastline. The Islands have only two seasons, the warm and wet season from January to June and the cool and dry season from July to December. Several species of wildlife and flora can only be seen on the Galapagos Islands. The best way to see the islands is onboard a ship. They offer 3 night, 4 night and 7 night itineraries.The landscape is quite diverse from primitive rock landscape to lush foliage. Every island is unique unto itself from the flora to the fauna. The wildlife in some species is quite abundant such as the Marine Iguanas that look so prehistoric to the adorable sea lions. Of course there is the Galapagos Tortoise which is like an armored car moving through the foliage and crushing everything in its path. Because of their immense size, it is amazing how fast they can move. You will see Blue and Red footed Boobies, albatrosses, penguins, and sea turtles to name just a few. 
Some of the wildlife does not feel threatened by humans and they allow you close encounters whether you are on the land or in the water. On one occasion a baby seal was playing in a tide pool with a Marine Iguana about 4 feet from us and putting on a show. When we started to walk away, I turned around to look back and the baby seal just stared right at me and then swam away as if to say, "Well if you are not going to watch my show anymore than I am leaving"!When ever you go onto the islands a park naturalist accompanies you as your guide. They are well educated on the Galapagos Islands and a delight to be with when you explore the island. There will also be snorkeling excursions off of the beaches.
